Job Purpose

The Junior Accountant supports the finance team by handling basic accounting tasks, maintaining financial records, and ensuring accuracy in financial transactions. This role is ideal for someone starting their career in accounting who wants hands-on experience in reporting, and financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Display a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • General Accounting
    • Process daily bank transactions and complete bank reconciliations.
    • Prepare month-end reconciliations and journal entries relating to capital assets, capital leases, prepaid expenses, debt accounts, deposits, and payroll accounts.
    • GST/PST monthly and quarterly reconciliations and filing documentation.
    • Assist the Accounts Receivable team with matching invoices to deposits.
  • Inventory
    • Process daily inventory transactions in the accounting system.
    • Prepare month-end inventory and reconciliation reporting.
  • Other
    • Deposit physical cheques through online banking.
    • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reports for various departments
    • Assist with monthly KPI reporting.
    • Provide support to other members of the Finance team as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to adapt quickly learn and adapt to new systems and software.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong initiative, reliability, and consistent attendance.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to collaborate and work professionally with employees at all levels, management, and external partners.

 

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid working environment, combining office-based or remote working arrangements with regular attendance in the office, as dictated by operational requirements.
  • May require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

 

Physical Requirements

  • The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time, and extensive reading.
  • The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
