Work Schedule: 4 on and 3 off, working 10 hours per day

Shift: Day Shift

Reporting to: VP, Corporate Operations

Job Purpose

 

The Senior Site Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of site operations to ensure successful project delivery. They provide strategic direction, technical expertise, and leadership to the project team, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards. Acting as the primary point of contact between stakeholders, contractors, and the client, they are accountable for coordinating resources, mitigating risks, and driving performance to meet organizational and client objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all matters related to contract execution.
  • Build, organize, and lead teams executing routine, non-routine, and campaign maintenance activities.
  • Prioritize workload effectively, focusing on mission-critical tasks.
  • Review customer contracts and specifications to ensure compliance with internal processes and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain project management files in line with departmental standards.
  • Manage all contract changes, including:
    • Providing timely notices to customers in accordance with contractual requirements
    • Processing and invoicing change costs through Waiward’s systems in a timely manner.
  • Prepare, submit, and update project budgets, including cost control, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
  • Ensure customer acceptance of contract values, budget values, and change values to support timely billing.
  • Review and approve all site expenditures.
  • Collaborate with customers to establish planning and scheduling workflows and assist with schedule and plan preparation.
  • Administer and actively participate in site coordination meetings.
  • Compile and maintain historical data and statistics for organizational reference.
  • Perform estimating duties and work with the off-site estimating team to complete proposals.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in construction and/or maintenance, including at least 5 years in a Project Manager or progressive supervisory role.
  • Proven experience working with unionized labour and within the framework of collective agreements.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software, including the Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera, and related tools.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment aligned with Waiward’s corporate values.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex information clearly and appropriately to diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in problem identification and resolution, with the ability to generate and evaluate solutions against company standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced expertise in bidding, purchasing, negotiating, contracting, and budgeting.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Proven ability to manage priorities effectively while balancing a large and dynamic workload.
  • CSTS-2020 Certification is mandatory prior to site access.
  • Pre-access Alcohol and Drug Testing must be successfully completed.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
  • Clear and current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.

Working Conditions

 

  • This position is based on the Shell Scotford Project Site outside of Edmonton, AB, and works closely with site leadership teams.
  • Requires the ability to move throughout the site as needed to support leaders, capture metrics, and ensure workforce processes are implemented.
  • Work will involve regular presence in active construction areas, including exposure to heights and typical industrial site conditions.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental practices in all activities.

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, reviewing documents, working on a computer for extended periods, and extensive reading.
  • The role requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Regular movement throughout active construction areas may also be required, including exposure to typical industrial site conditions and occasional work at heights.

Direct Reports

  • This role has full oversight of site operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and performance, but does not include direct line management of personnel.
