Location: Shell Scotford - Fort Saskatchewan, AB 

Position: Project based / Full-Time (2 weeks+)

Work Schedule: 6 on and 1 off, working 10-12 hours per day 

TAP/LOA: Available to those living outside the 120 km radius with accepted proof of residence documentation and travel receipts.

Reporting to: Site Superintendent 

Shift: Day Shift / Night Shift

Waiward is currently seeking motivated and safety conscious Unionized Apprentice and Journeyperson Boilermakers & B Pressure Welders for the mega-turnaround at the Shell Scotford Project Site. All recruitment is conducted in partnership with Boilermaker's Lodge 146, working under the General Plant Maintenance Agreement (GPMA). All hires must be dispatched through the union. 

 

Job Purpose

 

The Boilermaker is responsible for assembling, installing, welding, maintaining, and repairing boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and other heavy steel structures in accordance with specifications, codes, and safety standards. This role involves interpreting blueprints, using a variety of hand and power tools, and working in diverse industrial environments. Boilermakers ensure structural integrity and operational efficiency by performing precision work.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and/or welding procedures. 
  • Assembles, erects, repairs, and conducts maintenance of boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels.
  • Welders will require to perform welding on piping and structural components as per project specifications.
  • Utilizes tools safely and in an effective manner
  • Rigs and hoists heavy components
  • Works at heights and in confined spaces
  • Adheres to safety protocol and procedures, as well as company policies which contribute to a safe working environment.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Boilermaker or B-Pressure Welder Certificate (or recognized equivalent)
  • Valid trade qualifications recognized by the province of Alberta.
  • Welders will require strong knowledge of ASME and CSA welding codes/standards and a weld test to be conducted at Local 146 to F3/F4 / F6/F5.
  • CSTS 2020
  • Current Fall Protection, and Confined Space Entry/Monitor certifications (ESC, ACTI, or ABCS Alberta issued only)
  • Pre-access drug and alcohol test & mask fit test is required
  • Government Issued ID/Driver's License
  • Online Orientations required

Additional Requirements

 

  • Must be a member in good standing or willing to join the union as a member.
  • Proven experience as a boilermaker and/or welder
  • Attention to detail, with strong communication and teamwork abilities. 
  • Standard Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required including CSA approved steel toed boots.
  • Clean shaven site
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors with moderate noise, extreme temperatures, and numerous hazards including equipment.
  • Required to have visual acuity and also be able to sit, and/or stand for extended periods of time. This role will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, confined space entry, and display proper lifting techniques.
