Job Purpose

This temporary/full-time Payroll Administrator is responsible to ensure accurate time entry of the shop and field employees and day-to-day administrative support while adhering to Waiward's policies and procedures and all federal/provincial legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Display a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.

Bi-Weekly Shop/Weekly Field Payroll duties:

  • Set-up Construction/Fabrication new hires.
  • Review daily timecards for accuracy and scan and process shop timecards.
  • Process weekly Construction and bi-weekly Fabrication payroll.
  • Process payroll layoffs as they occur and generate applicable Records of Employment.
  • Perform required wage increases and pay adjustments as requested by management or as outlined by current collective agreements.
  • Respond to shop and field employee enquiries.
  • Maintain electronic employee filing system.
  • Perform benefit administration for shop employees.
  • Set up shop RRSP’s and pensions.

Monthly Payroll duties

  • Report on hiring’s
  • Field and shop garnishee remittances, RRSP remittances, and source remittances.
  • Audit and balance payroll G/L accounts
  • Canada Life invoice reconciliation

Annual Payroll duties

  • Assist Manager, Payroll with T4’s
  • Assist Manager, Payroll in producing reports for the Apprenticeship Tax Credit.
  • Assist Finance department with annual audits.

Miscellaneous

  • Provide managers and estimators with job hours upon request.
  • Produce and post any journal entries relating to payroll reconciliations.
  • Generate employment verification letters for field and shop employees.
  • Complete filing as necessary.
  • Work with other Payroll Administrators, Human Resources, Finance and Time Administrators to ensure shop, field and office employees are remunerated and in compliance with all federal/provincial legislation and our collective agreements.
  • Aid the Manager, Payroll with any additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • This position is temporary (3+ months) with an opportunity to transition to a permanent, full-time role.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Post secondary education and 2 or more years' experience in an office setting is required.
  • Certification with the Canadian Payroll Association is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll standards.
  • Experience with high-volume payroll and benefit administration.
  • Comfortable with reviewing and interpreting collective agreements.
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Previous experience working with accounting systems in addition to strong MS Office skills.
  • Ability to accurately provide financial information in a timely manner.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to own one's accountabilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external relationships.

Working Conditions

 

The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

 

Physical Requirements

 

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
