    Job Purpose

    The Intermediate Purchasing Agent is primarily responsible to support the Purchasing Manager by providing timely responses to requests related to the purchase of equipment, equipment parts, welding and cutting consumables and items required for products.

    Responsibilities

    • Displays a commitment to Waiward's incident-free vision, values, and culture;
    • Assists with all domestic, offshore, and local purchasing of steel;
    • Assists with operational inventory levels;
    • Assists in monitoring effective consumption of steel of Fabrication Operations;
    • Assists with maintaining accurate inventory records;
    • Assist with the management of sale of excess inventory to suitable clients as required;
    • Assist with the communication of changes in the marketplace that directly affect Waiward's operations (i.e. steel price changes, railways delays, shortages, etc.);
    • Assists in calculating job material requirements as per submitted reserve bills;
    • Receive material sheets from Yard and ensure all material is allocated to a specific job number by following StruM.I.S. software procedure;
    • Expedites raw materials from mills and warehouse supplies;
    • Tracks and documents Customs paperwork in conjunction with the Accounting department;
    • Allocates materials as required based on shop issued material cut sheets;
    • Enters consumed and returned stock from material allocation sheets into StruM.I.S.;
    • Maintains plate inventory as it pertains to crop tracking and control;
    • Negotiates and implements national supplier agreements and partnerships as required;
    • Sources and develops new supplier contacts as required;
    • May perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Post Secondary Degree in related field required;
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in purchasing;
    • FABTROL experience is considered an asset;
    • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing vendor relations;
    • Ability to understand and address the challenges related to purchasing;
    • Expert knowledge of procurement policities, procedures, tender and contract law, and trade agreements as well as various procurement strategies;
    • Exceptional customer service in a very versatile environment;
    • Ability to perform required research, evaluate findings, assess opportunities, and design and implement appropriate strategies;
    • Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage time effectively;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, including interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills;
    • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to understand the needs of the client;
    • Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers including vendors;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

    Working Conditions

    The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

     

    Physical Requirements

    The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and interact with a number of clients. The incument is also required to sit for extended periods of time.
