    Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta

    Position: Camp Based, Flights from Edmonton and Calgary

    Work Schedule: Day Shift / Night Shift / 6 on and 1 off, 12 hours/day for first rotation then 13 hours/day for remaining rotations

    Positions Available: 2

    Reporting to: Construction Director with technical support from Corporate Quality Leads or Site QA/QC Lead

    Position Summary:

    The QA/QC inspector is primarily responsible for completing inspections, examinations and reporting findings as required by governing codes, standards, specifications and project quality plans or ITP's.


    • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
    • Ensure the quality of construction is in accordance with Waiward's Project Quality Plan and customer specifications.
    • Learn and become knowledgeable with the client's technical spcifications and liaise with Owner's or clients SME on technical quality issues.
    • Completing and fulfilling the requirement of Inspection and Test Plans in accordance with all required construction standards, code and owner requirements (CSA W59 ASME B31.3, etc.).
    • Review and complete of project deliverables such as reports, logs, and ITP's.
    • Review and complete turnover packages in a timely fashion as per customer requirements.
    • Monitor and audit sub-contractors.
    • Perform inspections on work executed by sub-contractors.
    • Review and accept sub-contractor turnover documentation.
    • Maintain/Create weld maps and logs.
    • Verify Material Receiving activities and fill out documentation as required.
    • Communicate quality issues through the NCR / IS process.
    • Initiate and/or provide technical input to all RFI's generated; track NCR/RFI responses as required.
    • Complete daily QA/QC Report.
    • Carry out visual examination of welding and bolting.
    • Ensure material indentation and traceability of welding and all installed/erected components.
    • Ensure correct and timely reporting of all examinations.
    • Ensure the welders are qualified for the welding processes they are using.
    • Monitor weld consumable receiving, handling, distribution and storage.
    • Review logs for welder and line class NDE percentage. Requiring the necessary NDE when required.
    • Identify and glad all welds requiring PWHT or NDE. Coordinate with subcontractors to execute the work.
    • Carry out on a continuous basis quality surveillance of component/system erection to completion to ensure all components have been installed/erected as per the IFC drawings.
    • Witness pressure testing (hydro and pneumatic) of components in conjunction with the client inspector as required. Sign all pressure test documents when the test has been completed.
    • Visual examination and minotirong if bolt up of critical components.
    • Monitor any assembly or erection of all equipment.
    • Monitor all equipment/pump care, maintenance and preservation as required.
    • Witness mechanical alignments for pumps, motors and gearboxes.
    • Trouble shooting quality related issues with relevant stakeholders, including customer representatives.
    • Give quality orientation to new site workers pertaining to the project.


    • CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector.
    • Fall Arrest Training, Confined Space and CSTS.
    • Must have sound technical knowledge of CSA standards W47/59, S16 and ASME Codes.
    • Strong knowledge of NDT processes RT, UT, MT, PT.
    • Strong computer background including experience with MS Office and Bluebeam.
    • Strong communication skills, confident interacting with key contracts in verbal, written and electronic form.

    Working Conditions

    The incumbent is required to work in an office and field environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs, climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office and field routines.


    Physical Requirements

    The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: inspections preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry and limited lifting.
