Job Purpose

The Shipping Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of the shipping department.


  • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture;
  • Work effectively as a member of a team and coach other shippers and helpers;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Familiar with safe work practices;
  • Contribute to the planning and management of the Waiward shipping department;
  • Contribute to the transportation related execution strategies for Waiward Projects;
  • Coordinate with production staff in effort to expedite product delivery with strict adherence to the project schedule;
  • Champion and contribute to the further development and execution of Waiward's ISO requirements and safety programs;
  • Comply with all laws and regulations related to the highway transportaion industry in Canada;
  • Liaise with transportation venders as required;
  • Professionally interact with both internal and external clients to aid in planning or resolve disputes related to shipments;
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to cost control, productivity and accuracy in all shipping related activities;
  • Report key performance indicators and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements related to the shipping department;
  • Manage all important documents such as advanced shipping notice, pick slips, bills of lading, etc; 


  • Proven work experience in the highway transportation industry;
  • Proven work experience in materials management, expediting or project coordination roles;
  • An understanding of the best practices for safely and efficiently loading fabricated steel products in North America;
  • Proficient in standard logistics software and Microsoft office suite of software;
  • A great communicator;
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects;
  • BS in Business Administration, Logistics or Supply Chain is an asset;
  • 3rd party certification related to materials.

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in a shipping yard with moderate noise.


Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground.
