Job Purpose

Overhead Crane Operators are responsible for moving material through the shop to its required area.


  • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture;
  • Complete daily pre-use inspections prior to using a crane;
  • Follow and demonstrate proper rigging procedures and techniques;
  • Move required material to a designated location within the shop or yard;
  • Maintain control of load at all times;
  • Properly and promptly report maintenance concerns;
  • Attend daily toolbox meetings;
  • Complete tasks with minimal NCR’s;
  • Properly and consistently follow and document established procedures;
  • Takes reasonable care and cooperates with his employer to protect the health and safety of himself and his workers;
  • Ensures that he wears the appropriate personal protective equipment at all times;
  • Maintains good housekeeping in work area;
  • Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required;
  • Specifically, the Crane Operator will participate in Waiward’s safety program;
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Basic and Advanced Rigging Course an asset;
  • Coordination and manual dexterity required;
  • The ability to work at heights as this may be required from time to time;
  • The ability to work as a team with good communication skills;
  • FLHA Training an asset;
  • Overhead Crane Operator Course (internally delivered);
  • WHMIS.
