Position: Permanent / Full Time

Positions Available: Night Shift - 1 / Weekend Shift - 1

Job Purpose

The Wheelobrator Operators are responsible for the surface preparation of materials which includes the removal of all loose paint, rust, and mill scale from items prior to painting.

Responsibilities

  • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Complete safety checks prior to commencing work.
  • Conduct inspection of Wheelobrator prior to use.
  • Load/unload material with the overhead crane.
  • Operate sand blast equipment in a safe manner.
  • Check material for progress/quality.
  • Track progress on production sheets.
  • Trouble shoot by entering machine to check components.
  • Read, understand and follow all safe work practices and procedures for machinery and equipment.
  • Have and use the proper tools to meet the specific job requirements.
  • Complete housekeeping duties including checking dust barrels, cleaning screens, sweeping area around machine.
  • Attend daily toolbox meetings.
  • Follow work schedules.
  • Properly and consistently follow and document established procedures.
  • Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required.
  • Specifically, the Wheelobrator Equipment Operator will participate in Waiward’s safety program.
  • Willing to work overtime when needed.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Overhead Crane Certification (internally delivered).
  • Advanced and Basic Rigging Course an asset.
  • Respirator Trained preferred.
  • FLHA Training an asset.
  • WHMIS.

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in a fabrication shop with moderate noise.

 

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.
