The Structural Steel and Plate Fitter is responsible for assembly, fitting, installation, and fabrication of metal components for various structures and products.


  • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture;
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the materials necessary to lay out work;
  • Assemble and fit metal section and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting, or other methods;
  • Lay out reference points and patterns according to component specifications;
  • Grind, stamp, cut and drill material;
  • Conduct housekeeping and general cleanup;
  • Attend daily toolbox meetings;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and ask questions;
  • Consistently complete tasks with minimal errors, rejections and NCR’s;
  • Ensure that all non conformances are reported and that the shop, where applicable, maintains the integrity of the company’s ISO-9001 registration;
  • Properly and consistently follow and document established procedures;
  • Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required;
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Must be a registered apprentice, an Alberta-certified journeyperson, hold a valid recognized credential, or possess the skills and knowledge expected of a journeyperson;
  • Basic Rigging Course an asset;
  • FLHA Training an asset;
  • Certified Overhead Crane Operator an asset;
  • WHMIS.
